OK, this time I think we may have gone off the deep end. This weekend, we brought home a 7 foot marlin and mounted it on the living room wall. It’s wood and not fiberglass (does that indicate age?). And it bears the scars of many pitched battles on the high seas (probably why it was on sale for a fraction what vintage marlin wall-mounts normally cost). Many have tried to bring in “King Marvin”, and many have failed. His near-capture is the stuff of salty legend in the smoky dock bars that ring the warm Pacific. But today he has a new home. Looks good against the aqua walls, don’t he?

I can't decide whether this makes the living room feel like MarineWorld 1968, a taxidermy shop at the docks, or the back room at Spengler's restaurant.

I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to eat him, or him me. It's kind of fun and bold and monstrous; all at the same time.
If you can believe this, the coloration is perfect for the room; the blue/gray blends with the aqua walls, the dark grey with the grey sofa, and the warm gold underbelly links in with all the brass mid-century fixtures.
Kewpie prize to the reader who comes up with the best sea-shanty about Marvin and leaves it in the comments!
