Mmmoooooo!!

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

We were having breakfast this past weekend at the Vault in Berkeley (sorry Vault, but the coffee was watery and the food bland; can’t recommend), and then we strolled down to the nearby People’s Bazaar, the floor-to-ceiling antique store worthy of its name. And what to our wondering eyes should appear…….but this great bull’s head! It’s cool in part because it’s odd, not quite ugly, but one wonders what the original inspiration was. It’s not even a cow, more suitable for domestic display, but a bull, yet surrounded by flowers….. But once I figured out where it could go in our house, right above the stove between the two beakers with moss and daisies, creating a kind of domestic altar to the food chain, then bingo! Check it out.

It's actually covered in flock; I'm sure it's a grease-trap, but it's simply too fabulous in that spot right above the stove.

It's covered in flock like all those animals from a certain era. It's certain to be a grease-trap, but it's just too cool in that spot!

How cool is that?

The only downside is that the bull is looking down at the stovetop so soulfully, I doubt I'll ever be able to fry up burgers there again.

I got the cowgirl nightlight cover in Portland, OR. There's not exactly a bovine theme in the kitchen, but the bull over the stove does kind of echo this more cutesy porcelain cow.
